Five Candidates for U.S. President Announce Support for Farm Action Fund’s Farmers Bill of Rights

Storm Lake, IA – Farm Action Fund brought farmers from across the country together Saturday in Storm Lake Iowa to call on policymakers in Washington DC and State Houses across the country to adopt reforms based on the Farmers Bill of Rights. 2020 Presidential candidates including Senator Elizabeth Warren, Senator Cory Booker, Senator Amy Klobuchar, Representative Beto O’Rourke and Representative John Delany all issued statements supporting the platform.

Farm Action Fund Board Member Wes Shoemyer said, “We are excited that five candidates for president are getting serious about standing with family farmers instead of multinational agribusiness. The right to fair markets, repair our equipment, protect our natural resources and opportunity for kids growing up in rural communities is fundamental.”

Senator Elizabeth Warren said, “I want Washington to work for family farmers, not just for the agribusiness executives pocketing multi-million dollar bonuses. I joined Farm Action Fund today to say loud and clear: We need a Farmers Bill of Rights.”

Senator Cory Booker said, “Farmers feed America — we’ve gotta take better care of them. That means passing serious policy reform, like ending corporate ag consolidation. I’m proud to support the Farmers Bill of Rights as my North Star on ag.”

Senator Amy Klobuchar said, “Our rural communities are the backbone of our economy. I support @FarmActionUS’s Farmers Bill of Rights and will continue to stand up for our family farmers.”

Representative John Delany said, “Farmers are the backbone of America’s rural community. Politicians in Washington need to do more to empower family farmers and create incentives to grow the agriculture sector instead of giving tax breaks to wealthy corporations. As President, I will do everything in my power to end the monopoly created by big ag and create an economy that works for all Iowans. That is why I have made rebuilding the heartland a centerpiece of my platform.”

Representative Beto O’Rourke said, “ We should be ensuring that every farmer can make a profit and that we encourage them not just to grow the crops that sustain our lives but also to give them access to the technology and markets to do more of their part to avert the catastrophe of climate change. All of this is possible when we decide we are going to work together.”

Farm Action Fund welcomes support for the Farmers Bill of Rights from policymakers across the country to ensure family farmers have a shot at the American dream and our rural communities are revitalized.
