Farm Action Fund Applauds Senator Roger Marshall for Listening to Voices of Independent Family Farmers

Marshall Withdraws Support from Controversial Food Security and Farm Protection Act

Mexico, Missouri – Farm Action Fund’s Rural Independence Initiative today praised Senator Roger Marshall for officially withdrawing his cosponsorship of the Food Security and Farm Protection Act (FSFPA) on June 10. This is the Senate version of the Save Our Bacon Act which is currently included in the House Farm Bill that would preempt over 600 animal welfare, animal disease and food safety laws. In the previous Congress, Senator Marshall had been the original sponsor of the previous version of this bill, the Ending Agricultural Trade Suppression Act.

Farm Action Fund president Joe Maxwell issued this statement:

“We at the Rural Independence Initiative would like to commend U.S. Senator Roger Marshall for withdrawing his name as a sponsor of the Food Security and Farm Protection Act, the Senate version of the Save Our Bacon Act. We have long advocated that the so-called ‘Save our Bacon’ provision be excised from the farm bill. It takes away the right of states to set food standards, robs independent farmers of market opportunities, and further increases the power of corporate control over our food supply. We salute Senator Marshall for listening and choosing independent farmers over corporate monopolies.”
