(ABC 6 News) – As the DFL Convention got underway in Rochester on Friday, a group of activists gathered outside the Mayo Civic Center to advocate for family farmers and rally against the “Save Our Bacon” Act.

The group, wearing shirts with the phrase “Stop the Save our Bacon Scam” and “Support Prop 12”, were trying to gain Democratic support on a bill they say will help small farmers. “Well the Save the Bacon Act is bad news for the consumer,” said Chris Petersen, an Iowa pig farmer. “Proposition 12 has created opportunities and security for raising pig.”

The activists hope that their version of the bill makes it through the Senate with support from Sen. Klobuchar and Sen. Smith.

The group also wanted to thank Sen. Klobuchar, Sen. Smith, and Rep. Craig for their support on the Agriculture Committee in the Senate and House.
