Farm Action Fund Commends House Ag Committee’s Hearing to Review the State of Black Farmers in the U.S.

Today, Farm Action Fund submitted a letter to the House Agriculture Committee, thanking Chair Scott and Ranking Member Thompson for convening a hearing to review the state of Black farmers in the U.S. By calling for this historic hearing, it is clear the members of this committee recognize the need to address systemic racism in agriculture, and to work together to begin rectifying it.

The letter applauds the provisions in the American Rescue Plan that address racial inequality in the food system and includes Farm Action Fund’s additional policy recommendations to the new Congress that further tackle discrimination in today’s food system.

While the Biden Administration and Congress are just beginning to address the historical and persistent inequities in our food system, Farm Action Fund is encouraged by the House Agriculture Committee’s early display of commitment to remedying long-standing racial injustices and building an inclusive economy.
