For too long, America’s farmers have been mandated to pay into government checkoff programs with little accountability and transparency. These programs are meant to fund product research and promotion for our farmers. Instead, checkoff programs funnel farmers’ money to lobbying organizations — representing the world’s largest meatpacking corporations like Tyson Foods — which promote policies that harm our environment, abuse farm animals, and drive family farms out of business.
The Opportunities for Fairness in Farming Act (OFF Act) is critical to bringing transparency and accountability to these programs, and keeping them out of the hands of harmful lobbying organizations working against key Biden administration policies, such as the “Waters of the U.S.” (WOTUS) rule and strengthening critical protections under the Endangered Species Act.
It’s time to reform these harmful checkoff programs and you have the power to help make progress happen! Simply fill out the short form below to tell Representative David Scott, Ranking Member on the House Agriculture Committee, to support the inclusion of the OFF Act in the 2023 Farm Bill.
